About me

I am a free-lance writer and photographer, having retired after 31 years with the Daily Gazette of Schenectady, 25 of those years writing the column The View From Here.

I now write a blog for the Times Union (click HERE to see it), which I am still figuring out how to make full use of. I photograph boxing in the Capital Region and am hoping to produce either a book or an exhibit on the subject, or both. And I have just published an account of my journalistic career, "From D'burg to Jerusalem: The Unlikely Rise and Awful Fall of a Small-Town Newsman," about which more information is available by clicking above right on "my book." It is an excellent read, and I cannot recommend it too highly.

Self-portrait, reflection in a store window, taken with the Nikon Coolpix in hand, which was my first digital camera. I have since graduated to a bulkier model, which gains me more respect. In time I will put more photos on the "photos" page.
